About Us
Located in Central Texas, Maverick Collies is a small hobby kennel committed to producing top-quality rough Collies — always keeping in mind our goals of preserving and advancing this beloved breed. Special attention is given to structural soundness and the correct, sweet collie expression that is the hallmark of our breed standard.
We are active members of the Collie Club of America, the Collie Health Foundation, the Collie Club of Austin, and the Collie Club of San Antonio. We are a listed breeder with the Better Breeder Institute.
Our kennel is home to multiple Grand Champions, Best In Specialty Show Winners, the 2018 Collie Club of America National Best of Variety Winner, the 2019 Collie Club of America Select Bitch, and the 2021 Westminster Variety Winner. We participate in AKC Conformation competitions and events throughout the United States.
Our Story
Our breeding program began with the help of our mentor, Joan Brown of Blu Ridge Collies, in acquiring a beautiful and exceptionally sound tricolor puppy bitch, “Hattie”, from breeders, Blair and Marie Mullin of Sunnland. She was a spectacular combination of Joan’s dog, GCH Blu Ridge Let it Ride, “Rio”, and the Mullin’s bitch, GCH Sunnland’s Marie’s Antoinette, “Toni”. “Hattie” quickly went on to become GCH Sunnland’s Ladybird, and we chose to breed her to the distinguished, GCHB Wyndlair Point Given, “Xander”—a dog of breathtaking elegance and presence. This breeding proved pivotal in the development of our family of Collies, as both dogs now figure prominently in every part of our pedigrees.
Over the last fifteen years, we have gone on to finish twenty-nine champions with multiple best in specialty show wins and group placements. Several of our dogs have garnered top class placements at national specialties including: Reserve Winner’s Dog 2013, GCh. Blu Ridge Resolution, Best of Variety Rough 2018, GCh. Maverick Painted Lady, and Select Bitch Rough 2019, GCh. Maverick Fanfare.
