MAVERICK COLLIE PUPPIES
uncompromising breed Conservation
Each Collie puppy at Maverick Collies is purposefully bred with a focus on health, temperament, and conformation, ensuring that they possess the true essence of this remarkable breed. From the moment they are born, our puppies receive the utmost care and attention, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being. We take great pride in raising these precious puppies, and we are excited to help them find loving homes where they will bring joy and companionship for years to come.
FINDING YOUR COLLIE BREEDER
THE NECESSARY FIRST STEP
To ensure your success, it is crucial to shift your focus from simply “looking for a puppy” to actively “looking for a breeder.” Collaborating with a reputable breeder will guide you toward discovering the ideal puppy for you. A reputable breeder prioritizes the betterment of the breed over profit and does not view puppies as mere commodities. Their purpose is to enhance the breed through thoughtfully planned litters. By aligning yourself with breeders who uphold this philosophy, you will significantly increase your chances of finding a superior-quality puppy.
HOW MUCH DOES a MAVERICK COLLIE PUPPY COST?
Each Maverick Collie puppy is the result of a meticulously planned breeding aimed at advancing the breed’s hallmark qualities. Our breeding program prioritizes the selection of exceptional Collies, comprehensive health testing, early socialization, and providing a nurturing environment for the puppies. By investing in a Maverick Collie puppy, you are not only bringing home a companion but also contributing to the preservation and advancement of the breed. The current price of $2,000 reflects the dedication, expertise, and resources invested in producing top-quality Collies that excel in health, temperament, and conformation.
OUR PUPPY RESERVATION LIST
The first step in acquiring a Maverick Collie puppy is to contact us to obtain our Puppy Application. Completing this application is a prerequisite for consideration as a potential home for one of our puppies. Upon approval, we will collect a $500 deposit to secure your place on our reservation list. Our reservation list is ordered by the dates deposits are received. If a puppy is not identified as compatible in the prospective litter, the deposit may be refunded, or you may apply it to our next litter. The average wait time for a Maverick Collie puppy is 6 to 9 months, but the wait could be significantly shorter for those open to different colors or genders.

OUR PUPPY MATCHING PROCESS
We often receive questions about how we match puppies to their new homes. The process is complex, as each litter varies in size, coat color, gender, and the traits we aim to retain for our breeding program. Our reservation list includes families with diverse preferences eagerly awaiting their precious puppy. To help reduce wait times, we always encourage flexibility in gender and coat color, as this broadens the available options. However, many prospective owners have specific preferences, and typically, only one or two puppies in a litter will meet their criteria.
With each breeding, we focus on strengthening specific traits within our bloodline. Typically, we retain one or two puppies with the qualities needed for our program or that of a partner breeder to support the continued advancement of the Collie breed. Our selection is not always based on the “pick of the litter” but rather on the puppy that best aligns with our breeding goals.
The available puppies are then thoughtfully matched to families based on their application preferences, with priority given to deposit order. When multiple puppies are available, we offer as many options as possible. Families are never obligated to accept a puppy if they feel it isn’t the right fit, even if it matches their stated preferences. In such cases, they may wait for a future litter or request a deposit refund.
This careful process ensures each puppy is placed in the most suitable home, fostering success for both the families and the puppies.
IN-PERSON MEETING
At Maverick Collies, we require an in-person, face-to-face meeting between the puppy and their new owner. Third-party pickups are not permitted under any circumstances.
If you live outside of driving distance from Central Texas, we recommend flying into the San Antonio International Airport or the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and carrying your puppy home as excess baggage in a soft-sided carrier before they reach ten weeks of age. This ensures the puppy remains under your care during the flight and helps avoid last-minute, temperature-related shipping restrictions, which are common during late spring, summer, and early fall. For this option, we suggest utilizing the Guaranteed On Board program offered by SHERPA, which helps ensure a smooth process and avoids potential logistical challenges when flying with your puppy.
PUPPY CARE
Before they join their new families, our puppies undergo the following care regimen:
VACCINATIONS & WORMING
The appropriate vaccinations are administered to your puppy based on their age before departure from our kennel. In addition, our puppies undergo routine preventative deworming treatments to prevent any parasitic infections. A comprehensive vaccination and worming history will be furnished to you.
puppy socialization
Our puppies are whelped and nurtured in our home, where they receive constant care and handling. They are exposed to various noises, experiences, surfaces, toys, car rides, other pets, and children. This thorough approach to raising puppies focuses on maximizing their physical and mental development and equips them with diverse early learning experiences and socialization opportunities.
housebreaking
From the young age of four weeks, our puppies are trained to relieve themselves in litter boxes filled with pine pellets and wood shavings rather than their living spaces. At six weeks of age, they are introduced to a doggie door, which allows free access to potty outside. This early housetraining sets a solid foundation, making it easier for them to adapt to housebreaking routines in their new homes. Collie puppies are exceptionally intelligent and quickly become accustomed to schedules and the principles of housebreaking.
CRATE TRAINING
Our puppies are introduced to daily crate training after outdoor play at six weeks of age. This helps them become comfortable and secure in their own space. During crate time, they relax with chew bones and soothing classical music, creating a calm and positive environment. This routine not only aids in their development but also makes the transition to their new homes smoother and less stressful.
veterinarian WELLNESS EXAM
Each of our puppies undergoes a thorough examination by a veterinarian before heading to their new homes. We aim to ensure that our puppies leave as happy and healthy companions for their new families!
Ophthalmology exam
Our puppies undergo eye examinations at 8 weeks of age by a Board Certified Canine Ophthalmologist. With your puppy, you will receive an eye check certificate. The Collies in our breeding program have excellent vision, are Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA) mild, and are free of Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA), as confirmed by genetic testing.
MICROCHIP REGISTRATION
Our puppies are microchipped before their eye checks at 8 weeks old, with the microchip registered to Maverick Collies through AKC Reunite. To transfer ownership, please visit www.AKCREUNITE.org and select PET TRANSFER to update the microchip information. As an important safety measure, we recommend listing us as the second contact on your microchip registration.
AKC REGISTRATION
The purchase price of your puppy includes prepaid AKC registration. Just provide us with your preferred name for your puppy, and we will take care of the registration process for you. Companion puppies from our kennel are sold with a spay/neuter contract and AKC Limited Registration per the Collie Club of America Code of Conduct. By following these guidelines, we uphold the standards of responsible pet ownership and contribute to the overall health and quality of the Collie breed.
OUR CONTRACT
When purchasing a Maverick Collie puppy or dog, you must sign a legally binding contract that includes a health guarantee. This agreement protects both parties and, most importantly, the puppy or dog. As part of the contract, we require the first right of refusal if, at any point in the dog’s life, you are no longer able to care for them. In such a situation, you must contact us so we can work together to find a suitable, approved home for the dog. We are committed to the lifelong well-being of every dog we breed and will gladly take back one of our Collies for any reason, at any stage of their life.
HEALTH GUARANTEE
Maverick Collies offers a three-year health guarantee against genetic disorders impacting the puppy’s ability to lead a happy and healthy life as a family companion. This health guarantee reflects our commitment to raising healthy, well-adjusted Collie puppies and ensuring the joy they bring to their new families for years. Our breeding program is designed to minimize the risk of serious genetic conditions. We carefully select pairings based on health testing and pedigree analysis, avoiding bloodlines known for significant health concerns. While no breeder can guarantee against every potential issue, our dedication to health and responsible breeding practices greatly reduces the likelihood of genetic problems.
